Open up and let the light back in.
Creating safe spaces to weave words, share stories and connect communities.
Welcome!
I’m Rebecca Rocker
… the founder and facilitator behind Torn Curtain.
I created Torn Curtain to build safe spaces for ordinary people to tell extraordinary stories.
As an experienced facilitator, teacher and spoken word poet, I’m fascinated by storytelling and the power of sharing. We all have a story to tell, but we don’t always have the tools to tell it.
I deliver story-centred workshops, events, partnerships and projects to nurture creativity, conversation, confidence and connection.
If you’re looking for a partner to lift barriers and encourage self-expression through storytelling, you’ve come to the right place.
Let’s bring some Torn Curtain energy to your project — and your people.
“Storytelling is the essential human activity. The harder the situation, the more essential it is.”
— Tim O’Brien
I use poetry and performance techniques to create change. I empower people to shine a light on hidden truths and find words for things that feel unsayable.
My workshops are for everyone. All communities need creativity and storytelling to thrive. From schools and workplaces to youth clubs, support groups and charities — I give people the tools to explore and express their experiences.
Every project is unique. I create bespoke confidence-building workshops for corporate clients, lead creative journalling sessions for mental health support groups, and co-write spoken word poetry with teenagers for live performance. But there’s truly no limit — I want to use poetry for change in ways we haven’t even thought of yet.
So, whatever you’re looking for, I’m here to dream it up with you and deliver it for you.
The Torn Curtain Way
We are creative.
We believe that creativity is an agent for change. We build creative communities and use storytelling to strengthen social bonds.
We are inclusive.
We identify and tear down barriers that disconnect people from themselves and each other.
We are compassionate.
We care deeply about participants and their stories. We make time and space for people to be seen, heard and understood.
We are generous.
We go the extra mile. We share our time, stories, skills and ideas with one another.
We are welcoming.
We foster a safe, supportive environment where people can connect and create.
We are empowered.
We don’t apologise for our stories and creative skills. We work together to shed light on the ups and downs of being human and explore a path to hope.
We are authentic.
We share real experiences and express honest emotions. We are vulnerable with each other and celebrate our imperfections.
We are playful.
We are serious about what we do but try not to take ourselves too seriously. We believe play and creativity are good for the soul, at any age.
